Healthcare management professionals work hard to ensure their organizations keep people healthy.  But people need more than just good healthcare. They also need healthy environments. Healthcare managers are critically important collaborators in safeguarding planetary health.  Through the choices they make, their organizations can lead by example in transitioning to more sustainable practices and advocating for environmental health in the communities they serve.

In 2024, graduate students from five universities came together to develop a report card for the healthcare management profession.  Their pilot work is currently on track to be released in the 2025 report card cycle.

To produce the report card, students relied on recent planetary health research1-3 and the local design of their home institutions’ curricula. Student team leaders from each convened several times during Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 to evaluate and brainstorm. and write each question. Ultimately, collaboration was the core foundation of how the PHRC-MHA was made.

The student team leads are working with the PHRC to publish the pilot PHRC-MHA this year before seeking an external review of the report card metrics to ensure international compatibility.

The generations are counting on their healthcare leaders to build a healthier future.  Will you join us? Head to the contact page to get in touch.
