The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) was adapted for nutrition and dietetics in 2024 by a team of two students and one faculty member based at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. To ensure the newly developed metrics were relevant for nutrition and dietetic programs internationally, a group of 16 nutrition and dietetics educators from 7 countries were invited to review the draft metrics and complete a survey with their feedback. These experts were identified through previous education research collaborations as part of the International Congress of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Sustainable Food Systems toolkit. Responses were received from 11 experts and the metrics were subsequently updated based on their feedback. We would like to thank each of these experts for their valuable contribution to the development process. The draft metrics were then piloted with fellow educators from Monash Nutrition, as part of the 2024/2025 PHRC data collection process.
Our hope is that the PHRC will serve as a valuable tool to advocate for planetary health to be prioritised by nutrition and dietetics schools globally, in education and the all other domains of action. As a global population, the way we produce and consume food within our current food system is contributing approximately one third of all greenhouse gas emissions. Nutritionists and dietitians, who work in many settings and industries within this food system, can therefore play a critical role in promoting planetary health to ensure equitable access to nutritious food for current and future generations.
