VETERINARY MEDICINE

The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) was adapted for veterinary medicine (DVM) in 2023 by a team of DVM students and DVM faculty. Both the design and the implementation of this template draw from previous PHRCs, particularly medicine, but are adapted to better capture some of the unique attributes of animal health care. The DVM PHRC was piloted at the University of Guelph, University of California, Davis and Colorado State University and results shared at the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) 2024 Catalyze Conference in 2024.

The hope is that future DVM students will use the PHRC to enhance planetary health educational efforts within their own veterinary programs. By continuing to develop this report card future students should stand in better stead to question the knowledge and skills they are being equipped with. Questions that probe whether healthcare systems provide care not only for current patients but also for patients, and their human caregivers, of future generations.
